Final Report Executive Summary (PDF)

The Final Report contains information pertaining to the analyses that were conducted.

DOAS/Active Chilled Beam: Computational Fluid Dynamic models were simulated to analyze air flow distribution, temperature distribution, and contaminant distribution between the existing VAV/CAV and redesign DOAS/ACB system. Energy and cost analyses were also done to compare the two systems.

Heat Recovery Systems: Four typeSs of heat recovery systems were analyzed: heat pipe, fixed plate, enthalpy wheel, runaround coil loop. Analyses on energy saving, potential cross contamination, maintenance, and cost were done to determine the best suitable system.

Solar Shading System: Energy analyses were done to evaluation the effect of solar shading system on building energy consumption. Renderings were made the compare the existing building and the building with solar shades in the aesthetic aspect.

Note:
While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Shiyun Chen. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
